A Detroit Times newspaper dated from 1916 was discovered while ripping out the damaged maple bathroom floor. This house is directly behind Hitsville (Motown). Martha Reeves rented the downstairs unit in the 60s. Berry Gordy owned rentals before he hit it big with Motown.
This house was a mess. The oak trim, doors, columns, and partitions were all painted. The floor was covered with linoleum. Both bathrooms had 4 1/2 foot claw foot tubs (no shower), but the floors were warped. The good news was that all the original doors, hardware and heat grates were still there.
It is still used as a rental.
